Optical Coherence Tomography in dentistry.

On Monday 21st of July 2014 in VIVADENTAL Institution had place the presentation about using Optical Coherence Tomography in dentistry. The issue was developed by Dr Engineer Marcin Strakowski Team, The Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics, Gdansk University of Tehcnology.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is non-invasive and non-contact imaging 2D and 3D method of the internal structure of materials and a wide variety of objects including tissue micrometer resolution. The OCT tested object is scanned by beam of optical radiation. As in the ultrasound radiation intensity is measured in the backscattered within the tested object and the time after which it is recorded. This method is already widely used in ophthalmology and in some applications related to medical diagnostics. This technique is non-invasive.

In the presentation took part the representatives of the medical environment of VIVADENTAL Institute and the researches from Gdansk University of Technology. Both sides expressed the willingness to cooperation to conduct joint researches in the field of using OCT in dental practice.
